Since the middle of the 20th century, the American Kawasaki® Motorcycle Corporation has been a leader in the powersports industry. This Japanese-born company has made huge strides in a number of different markets, with their Heavy Industries division responsible for their top-tier engines and the vehicles that use them.

United States History of the Company

 

Stemming from the original Japanese corporation, which had been around since the end of the 19th century, the modern American division began in the mid-1960s. They converted an old Chicago meat warehouse into their first factory. This then allowed the group to launch their products for the American marketplace.

 

With their determination and a factory that supplied them with the necessary parts, Kawasaki produced their first two-stroke motorcycles under the Omega brand. Because riders in the United States craved more powerful, heavier motorcycles, the company introduced their           stronger Samurai and Avenger models to meet these new demands.

 

Industry Pioneering

 

Following these initial successes, the company decided to further their appeal by launching the Mach III motorcycle in 1969. This superbike made Kawasaki a household name in the powersports sector, and the Z1 released in 1973 boosted their reputation even higher. This bike had the most powerful four-stroke, four-cylinder engine ever made contained within its sleek and elegant frame. All of these wins allowed the company to build a network of reputable dealers to improve distribution and offer better customer service to the greater public.

But the American Kawasaki Motorcycle Corporation isn’t just about bikes. The company decided to expand their horizons even further by joining other powersports markets. They dipped their toes into the personal watercraft sector in 1973, and they built their first three-wheeled ATV in 1981, with its sturdier and safer four-wheeler counterpart coming off assembly lines in 1985. All of this diversity demonstrates how willing the company is to meet and exceed customers’ needs.
